Highway 400 Widening and Improvements

We're excited to showcase the progress on our Highway 400 Widening and Improvements project, stretching from Major Mackenzie Drive to King Road. This project involves expanding the highway from 6 to 8 lanes to include a high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane in each direction. Additionally, precise adjustments are being made to the on and off ramps at several key interchanges to enhance traffic flow and accessibility.

The project also focuses on allowing for future expansions, with preparations to extend the highway to a 10-lane configuration. We’re focused on upgrading the critical safety infrastructure on the side of the roadway to prepare for the future expansion. We recently installed advanced guide rail systems, including a 36-meter stretch of steel beam guide rail connected to a permanent barrier and a specialized MASH Soft-Stop system designed to improve vehicle containment. This system helps minimize the impact of any accidents, significantly enhancing safety for all road users.

These improvements are done to help prepare Highway 400 for future traffic increases, ensuring that it remains a safe and reliable route for the thousands of drivers who use it daily.
