National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation offers an important opportunity for all of us at Powell Contracting to pause, reflect, and honour the Indigenous communities impacted by the residential school system. It is a day of remembrance for survivors and for the children who were lost. More importantly, it calls on all Canadians to commit to reconciliation and healing, fostering a deeper understanding and respect for Indigenous cultures and histories.

Coinciding with Orange Shirt Day, this day carries deep significance in raising awareness about the harm inflicted on Indigenous children in residential schools. The orange shirt symbolizes the stripping away of Indigenous identity, culture, and a sense of belonging, practices that have caused intergenerational trauma.

At Powell Contracting, wearing orange serves as a reminder of our shared responsibility to listen, learn, and contribute to healing and reconciliation. We stand with Indigenous communities in their fight for justice, equity, and respect, recognizing that true reconciliation begins with understanding and action.
